LEARNING FOR LIFE PROGRAMME
In line with our school vision of becoming ‘A Vibrant, Connected Community that Aspires, Learns and Leads’ and our mission ‘Together, we create an inviting and enrichment environment that nurtures Passionate Learners, Creative Thinkers and Caring Leaders’, we recognise the importance of providing every pupil, regardless of his/her background or starting point, with the access to discover and develop his/her interests and abilities in sports.
Over the past few years, we have started our journey to transit our Programme for School-based Excellence (PSE) in Table Tennis (established in 2008) into a distinctive Learning For Life Programme (LLP) that leverages sports to nurture character as well as promote school pride and national identity.
Anchored on our school values – GR3IT (Graciousness, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity and Teamwork), it is our desire to develop in our pupils, a robustness of character and develop in them, a mindset of excellence and continual improvement through the provision of an inclusive sports culture in school. We recognise the importance of empowering pupils to demonstrate GR3IT in order to sustain their passion and perseverance in sports. We need to help translate the values they have learnt through sports into other aspects of life. We also see the importance of enabling our pupils to see the relevance and application of sports in ’real’ life.
The word ‘GOal!’,is a term closely associated with Sports. Combined with the word GR3IT, it is our rallying call to pupils and staff to ‘GO’ forth and aspire towards a common goal i.e. The Portrait of the Yu Neng pupil – Passionate Learners, Creative thinkers and Caring leaders
As such, we are establishing our GOal GR3IT – Character Development through Sports@ YNPS as a 6-year LLP programme that provides and facilitates sports-related learning opportunities and experiences for all YNPS pupils. It comprises three key drivers i.e. GOal! PLAY and GOal! AMBASSADORS and GOal! GLOBAL and these were developed with close reference to the 4 Key Domains of the YN Curriculum. GOal GR3IT is undergirded by our set of School Beliefs.
GOal GR3IT therefore aims to:
- provide access to all pupils, regardless of their backgrounds and starting points, to be exposed to a variety of sports activities in a fun and engaging way, develop sportsmanship and to stretch the potential of pupils who demonstrate interest and aptitude in sports to attain their personal best.
- leverage sports as a vehicle for pupils to hone their leadership competencies, put values-in-action, contribute and make a difference.
- heighten cultural and global awareness in our pupils through sports education, appreciation and experiential learning.
