NATIONAL EDUCATION
NATIONAL EDUCATION (NE)
The key focus in commemorating the NE events is to develop and implement NE-focussed lessons that are integrated into the Social Studies and Character & Citizenship Education lessons. The school commemorates the 4 NE core events each year with special assemblies/activities and class-based lessons.
The NE core events are:
Total Defence Day (15 February)
Total Defence Day is commemorated annually to mark the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in 1942. It serves to remind our pupils that Singapore is worth defending and we ourselves must defend Singapore.
International Friendship (Day 8 April)
International Friendship Day is a day dedicated to the understanding of Singapore’s relations with neighbouring countries and beyond. It aims to sensitise our children to the geo-political realities inherent in Singapore, as well as nurture in our students the spirit of friendship and collaboration among different people.
Racial Harmony Day (21 July)
On this day in 1964, Singapore saw racial riots. It is a day for schools to reflect on and celebrate our success as a harmonious nation and society built on rich diversity of cultures and heritages.
National Day (9 August)
Apart from these, the school also celebrates the different festivals to enhance the pupils’ awareness of their multi-ethnicity environment.
