LAUNCH OF OCBC FINANCIAL LITERACY APP
Four Primary 4 Yu Neng pupils worked with mentors from OCBC to conceptualise, plan and develop a financial literacy game for children between 7 and 12. After 7 months of hard work, the app was launched on November 16, 2015 at Yu Neng Primary School by Minister for Communication and Information, Mr Yaccob Ibrahim. The app, containing four mini-games, was based on the four girls’ initial proposal of a game whereby the main character has just gone bankrupt and needs to work in diffeent jobs to earn his keep and furnish his home with several essential items. The game slowly took shape with the help of OCBC mentors who guided these pupils in the entire development process. Besides working on the app with our pupils, the OCBC mentors also held a coding clinic for the P4 cohort so that they could hone their coding skills beyond the curriculum. The two organisations hope that with the financial literacy game app, children in Singapore will learn how to manage their money wisely by cultivating healthy spending habits. This is also a way both OCBC and Yu Neng would like to give back to society using technology. Download the app on iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
